Something new
For some reason, starting this Substack feels very much like when I started my original blog on Typepad back in 2005. I can remember being so excited to have a space of my own to share my thoughts about everyday life with two young children. I found others who were sharing about their lives, about photography and scrapbooking. I found my favorite blogs to read, and some people I still follow on other forms of social media to this day.
That all feels so long ago (and it was!), and life looks very different for me now as I recently entered the “empty nester” stage of life.
Back then, I had no idea I would end up writing for a living.
But here I am.
I write books.
I edit books.
I design covers for those books, format them for ebook and paperback publication, and spend hours upon hours marketing them (or trying to.) I do the job of five people or more, but I wouldn’t trade that for a job working for someone else for anything.
Lately, I’ve been looking for something new and fresh, though. Something to inspire me to write things other than my novels, and that’s what this Substack is. A breath of fresh air for me. A way to recapture the joy of those early blogging days I loved so much.
I hope you’ll join me as I share my thoughts on the writing life (and whatever else comes to mind) for subscribers and peeks into my works in progress for those of you who choose to become a paid subscriber.
